COMPARISON

Choosing a Quran app: an honest comparison

HUSHU is designed for a calm moment with the Quran: a quiet screen, one verse, just the voice. There are no ads, not even for free users, and you never pay to remove them. The Quran text, Arabic recitation, prayer times and qibla are free. The only thing you pay for is the full voiced translation we produce ourselves, and we say so up front. Below, you can also see how other apps compare, using Google Play’s own labels.

WHY HUSHU

Calm, simple, and clear about what you pay for

01

Calm design

No badges, streaks, leaderboards or pop-up offers when you open the app. The verse, its transliteration and translation stay on screen; everything else steps back.

02

No ads, and no fee to remove them

Free users see no ads either. What keeps the app running is not advertising but the voiced translation we produce.

03

A voiced translation we produce ourselves

English, Turkish, German, Spanish and French; the Arabic text, transliteration and translation move verse by verse with the voice.

04

Clear about what you pay for

What is free and what is premium is clear from the start; no payment screen appears in the middle of a verse.

05

One verse a day, for how you feel

Pick one of eight states such as peace, patience or hope, and receive a single hand-picked verse for the day.

06

Widgets and a live prayer bar

A prayer-times widget on your home screen, a countdown to the next prayer in the notification shade, and a qibla compass.

In development: Android TV and Android Auto.

What is free, and what is premium?

The Quran text (6,236 verses), Arabic recitation by four reciters, reflections, the 99 Names, all eight feelings, prayer times and qibla are free. In the voiced translation, Al-Fatihah and the first 30 verses of Al-Baqarah are free; all 114 surahs are premium. Free users see no ads either.

Why do we charge? To keep HUSHU running and free of ads, our only income is the voiced translation we produce. We chose this so that the Quran text and recitation stay free for everyone.
