Al-Baqarah 2:164

إِنَّ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱخْتِلَـٰفِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلَّتِى تَجْرِى فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ بِمَا يَنفَعُ ٱلنَّاسَ وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مِن مَّآءٍ فَأَحْيَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا وَبَثَّ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ دَآبَّةٍ وَتَصْرِيفِ ٱلرِّيَـٰحِ وَٱلسَّحَابِ ٱلْمُسَخَّرِ بَيْنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ
In the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of night and day; in the ships that sail the oceans for the benefit of mankind; in the water that God sends down from the sky, and revives the earth with it after it had died, and scatters in it all kinds of creatures; in the changing of the winds, and the clouds disposed between the sky and the earth; are signs for people who understand

It strings together eight distinct natural phenomena: cosmic creation, astronomical rhythm, sea navigation, rainfall, biological diversity, wind, cloud. Each could stand alone as a sign, but here they are linked like a chain into a single invitation to "think." The verse closes with one condition: "for a people who use reason."
Observation
The eight items in the verse correspond to four major domains of modern science: cosmology, astronomy and geophysics, meteorology, biology. Their convergence in a single sentence underscores that these domains are, in fact, interwoven — no biology without rain, no rain without wind, no wind without cycles. Today "Earth system science" is precisely the interdisciplinary field that studies these linkages; the verse does not offer a catalog but a frame that makes the interconnection felt.
Exegesis
Classical exegetes hold that eight distinct proofs of divine unity are interlaced in this verse. Elmalılı counts it among the Qur'an's most concentrated meditative verses. Al-Rāzī draws attention to the closing verb "ya'qilūn" — observation alone is not enough; a mind that binds the observations is required.
